Petro-Canada’s Family Correspondents (PCFC) will be getting the inside scoop on Canadian athletes’ greatest fans – their families – as they watch their loves ones vie for a top spot on the international stage thanks to Petro-Canada’s Canadian Athlete Family Program. This important program provides the opportunity for approximately 500 athletes’ family members to attend the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games when they may not otherwise be able to, due to the high cost of accommodation and availability of tickets.
Our Family Correspondents know you want to hear about it all, so they’ll be reporting on Canadian athletes and their families – the sacrifices made to help athletes reach this milestone, memories from amateur sports days, what they’re going to do to celebrate, what competing in Vancouver means to them and so much more. Our Family Correspondents are here to share all these experiences with you, Canada!

I’m currently an environmental student at Trent University. I think I am most excited to watch the Canadian men’s hockey team play, it will be a dream come true for sure. I am also looking forward to spending a week that I will never forget in Vancouver with my brother, sharing the good times with everyone around the country. I can’t wait to experience the 2010 Olympic Winter Games first hand; it’s going to be unreal!

Competitive sport is in my blood. Scoring the game winner, battling injuries, training until collapsing and the personal satisfaction of achieving a goal-- I have been through all the highs and the lows with competitive sport. At each victory and each defeat, my SUPER supportive family was cheering me on all the way. Now, that I have moved on to a career in media, the experiences from competitive sport have taught me lifelong lessons I use every day. I hope to translate my experiences to the families in the Petro-Canada Family Program and see what they have put on the line to help their loved ones reach their goals. Oh, and maybe get some burning questions answered like, “Does Sydney Crosby wear boxers or briefs?”
Rob Brown
“Downtown Robbie Brown”, DTRB, Btown, Robbie or RGB are a few of the nicknames I have picked up by teammates over the years. From hockey, curling, skiing, golf, basketball, volleyball and soccer... you name it, I’ve competed at it. All the while, my dad was behind the bench, and my mom and two crazy sisters were cheering at the top of their lungs. I know firsthand, that family is the cornerstone of any athlete’s success. I have made the sacrifices, put it all on the line, and dragged myself out of bed on a cold Canadian morning – all for the “BIG W”! I’m excited to get the back story on the sacrifices made and the family support that has lead our Canadian athletes to the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. Watch out for my “spicy” commentary and natural ability to befriend everyone I meet – Brodeur will likely be coming to my place for a poker game after the Games!
