Arriving back at the hotel late last night (Feb 17th) we headed back up to the room to drop off some stuff and then planned to head back down to the Petro-Canada Hospitality Suite. When the elevator doors opened on our floor, who was standing there? Wayne Gretzky!!
We didn't want to be obnoxious, so we just politely said "Hello, Mr. Gretzky" and were moving to continue on our way. He asked us if we were enjoying the games and we said we just got back from Ladies Curling. He asked "How did we do?" I said, "Well, we weren't playing, but we watched Great Britain versus Sweden." He said "Right. We won earlier 7-6 against Japan."
Denis then asked if we could take a picture. And even though his elevator arrived, Wayne said sure. He asked us where we were from and we said Ontario. Then Denis said we won a trip to come here. He said, "Oh really?" and congratulated us. Then he said, "I won a trip too. I scored 1000 goals and they told me to come on out." We laughed and Denis added "yes and carry the torch!"
Wayne congratulated us again on winning the trip and asked what we were seeing next. We said "we're done, but we were hanging around Vancouver for a few more days." We thanked him for the picture and wished him a good night, shaking hands before he finally got on the elevator.
What an experience!! I totally spazed out when we got back in the room. I screamed and said "We just met Wayne Gretzky! That was totally awesome!!" And it really, really was. He was so nice, so engaging. It was very nice to meet him.
This goes down as probably the most exciting personal moment of the Games for me!

Ack! You guys are so lucky. I'm glad he was so friendly and let you get that totally awesome picture. I am sooooo jealous.
